Lyra Celtica have been operating as an independent band (ie. free from management) since the beginning.
The band has worked hard at establishing itself by working hard (but enjoyably) playing on the folk club and festival
circuit all over the UK, without the benefit of any promoters or managers using their contacts to get Lyra Celtica the work.
One of the main things that has kept Lyra Celtica going in this way is the appreciation gratefully received from the venues played, most notably the folk clubs of Scotland and the North of England, and the North of Ireland.
Building on that, radio play started to happen, with the album being played on various regions of BBC radio such as BBC Radio Scotland (Archie Fisher, Mary Anne Kennedy and Bryan Burnett), BBC Radio Ulster (Colm Sands), BBC Radio Foyle and BBC Radio Newcastle (Alistair Anderson), Cumbria and Cleveland; this lead to airplay in Canada on Lyle Skinner’s Prairie Ceilidh Show, and now in America, with the forthcoming tour. Airplay of the album has also been taking place, as far as we are told, in Russia and Europe. Russia is no surprise as the band has played there since the beginning, and recognition their is more notable since Frank’s first visit to the county some years ago, when he set up the first bodhran school in the county.
Lyra Celtica understands the difficulty bands have in establishing their name, and for this reason we would be glad to hear from bands starting up who are finding it difficult without having the contacts that so many established names have. So please contact us if you are in this situation....
